Our Expert Verdict
These are different categories: the X5 records 360° imagery; the Pro3 measures space with LiDAR and registers scans into an accurate, exportable model. For any deliverable someone will measure from, the Pro3 is the professional tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Matterport's 134.2 MP directly comparable to the X5's 72 MP?
No. Matterport's 134.2 MP figure is its output panorama pixel count — a stitched output measure — while the X5's 72 MP is a photo capture resolution. They measure different stages of the pipeline, so treat them as descriptive rather than a sensor-versus-sensor comparison. The categorical difference is depth: the Pro3 carries a Class 1, 904 nm LiDAR with ±20 mm accuracy at 10 m; the X5 has no depth sensor at all.
Where do these specifications come from?
From Insta360's and Matterport's official specification pages, captured and verified in August 2026 (neither manufacturer publishes a spec-sheet PDF; Matterport's support article was last updated December 2025). Note for buyers: Insta360 released the X6 in August 2026, so the X5 is no longer Insta360's newest 360° camera.
