DJI Zenmuse L3
Next-Generation Aerial LiDAR
The DJI Zenmuse L3 fires up to 2,000 kHz (2 million laser pulses per second), records up to 16 returns at the 100/350 kHz rates, and detects to 900 m by default. Native integration with DJI Terra for efficient processing.
Pros
- Up to 2,000 kHz pulse rate
- Up to 16 returns at 100/350 kHz
- 900 m default detection range
- Mechanical shutter 100 MP RGB
Cons
- Higher cost
- Matrice 400 only — no M350/M300 support

DJI Zenmuse L2
Proven Aerial LiDAR
The DJI Zenmuse L2 delivers up to 1,200,000 pts/s on multiple returns (240,000 pts/s single return), supports 5 returns and detects to 450 m at 50% reflectivity. Compatible with the Matrice 400, 350 RTK and 300 RTK.
Pros
- Proven performance
- Lower cost
- Works on M400, M350 RTK and M300 RTK
- Mechanical shutter RGB
Cons
- Shorter detection range
- Fewer returns (5 vs up to 16)

Our Expert Verdict
The Zenmuse L3 fires up to 2,000 kHz with up to 16 returns (at 100/350 kHz) and a 900 m default detection range, against the L2's 1.2M pts/s multi-return, 5 returns and 450 m. The L3 is the stronger sensor for vegetation and large-area mapping — but it flies only on the Matrice 400.
Choose DJI Zenmuse L3 if...
Choose Zenmuse L3 for survey-grade projects, forestry, and when maximum penetration matters — on a Matrice 400.
Choose DJI Zenmuse L2 if...
Choose Zenmuse L2 for general aerial LiDAR needs, for M350 RTK / M300 RTK fleets, and when budget is the primary concern.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is L3 worth the upgrade?
For vegetation and corridor work, yes: up to 16 returns (at the 100 and 350 kHz pulse rates) versus 5, and a 900 m default detection range versus 450 m at 50% reflectivity. The catch is the platform — DJI lists the Matrice 400 as the L3's only supported aircraft.
Can L3 fit on M350 RTK?
No. DJI's Zenmuse L3 spec page lists one supported aircraft: the DJI Matrice 400, and it requires the Zenmuse L3 single gimbal connector. For an M350 RTK or M300 RTK the aerial LiDAR option is the Zenmuse L2.
What accuracy does DJI publish?
DJI measured the L3 at 3 cm vertical / 4 cm horizontal RMSE from 120 m (5 cm / 7.5 cm from 300 m), and the L2 at 4 cm vertical / 5 cm horizontal from 150 m. Both figures come from DJI laboratory flights with RTK fixed and DJI Terra point-cloud optimization enabled — field results depend on the site, the flight plan and the control used.
