FOR ENGINEERS

Precise Documentation for MEP, Structural, and Civil Engineering

Engineering decisions require millimeter-accurate data. Our 3D laser scanning and LiDAR drone services provide the precise spatial data that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and civil engineers need for coordination, analysis, and clash detection — without the delays and errors of manual field measurement.

Challenges Engineers Face

Common documentation challenges we solve for engineers every day.

Incomplete MEP Documentation

Above-ceiling MEP systems are notoriously difficult to document manually. Pipes, ducts, conduit trays, and structural members hide behind each other, making accurate as-built drawings nearly impossible without 3D scanning.

Coordination Conflicts

MEP clashes discovered during construction cost 10-50x more to resolve than clashes caught during design. Point cloud data enables virtual clash detection before a single pipe is hung.

Field Verification Delays

When engineering models do not match field conditions, progress stops while someone returns to the site to re-measure. A complete point cloud lets your team verify any dimension from the office.

Survey Data for Analysis

Structural analysis, drainage design, and grading plans require accurate survey data. Our LiDAR drone surveys and terrestrial scans provide the topographic and structural data your engineering software needs.

Standard delivery in 3-5 business days. Expedited options available for time-critical engineering projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What accuracy do you achieve for engineering projects?

Our terrestrial laser scanners achieve ±2-4mm accuracy. For LiDAR drone surveys, we achieve 1-3cm horizontal and vertical accuracy with PPK/RTK positioning and ground control points. Both exceed typical engineering design tolerance requirements.

Can you provide topographic survey data for civil engineering?

Yes. Our DJI M4E drone with Zenmuse L3 LiDAR payload produces survey-grade topographic data including DTMs, contour maps, cross-sections, and volumetric calculations. Data is delivered in DWG, LandXML, GeoTIFF, and CSV formats compatible with Civil 3D, InfraWorks, and other engineering platforms.

How do you handle MEP scanning above ceilings?

We scan with ceiling tiles removed in occupied spaces (coordinated with facilities management) or in unfinished spaces where MEP is exposed. Our scanners capture all visible pipes, ducts, conduit, and structural members. Areas that cannot be directly scanned are noted in the deliverable documentation.

What does 3D scanning for engineering projects cost?

Engineering project scanning ranges from $0.20-$0.70/sq ft for interior laser scanning and $800-$3,000 per flight session for drone LiDAR surveys. Complex industrial environments with dense MEP are at the higher end. Contact us for a project-specific quote.

Can point cloud data be used for structural analysis?

Yes. Point cloud data can be used to verify structural member locations, sizes, and deformations. While point clouds themselves are not structural analysis models, they provide the accurate as-built geometry that structural engineers need as input for their analysis software (RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, etc.).
