Most projects do not need 400m of reach — the Premium is sufficient. Choose the Max only for long-range outdoor applications where extended reach reduces scan positions. Note that the extra range applies to bright targets: both models fall to 150m at 10% reflectivity and 50m at 2%.

When do I actually need 400m range?

Quarries, bridges, large infrastructure, or any project where reducing scan positions across vast distances saves time. Remember FARO publishes 400m only at 90% (white) reflectivity — dark-grey 10% targets drop to 150m and black 2% targets to 50m, the same as the Premium.

Is accuracy the same at extended range?

FARO publishes the same 2mm @ 10m / 3.5mm @ 25m 3D accuracy for both models, but range noise grows with distance and darkness, and atmospheric conditions affect all scanners at long range.

Can Premium handle outdoor projects?

Yes — 200m at 90% reflectivity handles most outdoor work, and both models share the same IP54 rating. The Max is for exceptionally large sites.
