Option A DJI

DJI Matrice 400

Flagship Heavy-Lift Platform

DJI's flagship enterprise platform (official name "DJI Matrice 400" — no RTK suffix): 6 kg payload capacity, LiDAR + mmWave obstacle sensing, and the only aircraft that carries the Zenmuse L3.

Pros

  • 6 kg at the third gimbal connector, at sea level
  • Carries Zenmuse L3
  • Rotating LiDAR + mmWave radar sensing
  • RTK heading better than 2°
  • 59-min flight time measured with an H30T fitted

Cons

  • Heavier logistics (9.7 kg takeoff weight)
  • Newer platform, smaller installed base
  • No H20-series or L1 support

Best For

Drone LiDAR (Zenmuse L3)Long corridor missionsComplex obstacle-rich sitesMaximum-endurance mapping
Option B Wingtra

WingtraOne Gen II

VTOL Fixed-Wing Mapper

The WingtraOne Gen II combines VTOL convenience with fixed-wing cruise efficiency, covering large open areas per flight that no multirotor matches.

Pros

  • Very large per-flight coverage
  • Efficient fixed-wing cruise
  • VTOL — no runway
  • High mapping productivity

Cons

  • Cannot hover
  • Fixed camera options only
  • Open areas only
  • No LiDAR support

Best For

Large-area photogrammetryAgricultureMiningLong corridor mapping

Our Expert Verdict

Depends on Your Needs

Airframe physics decides this one: the WingtraOne's wing covers far more open ground per flight; the Matrice 400 hovers, carries LiDAR and thermal payloads, and works complex, confined and vertical sites a fixed-wing cannot. Large open-area photogrammetry favours the Wingtra; everything with structure, obstacles or LiDAR favours the M400.

Choose DJI Matrice 400 if...

Choose the Matrice 400 for LiDAR deliverables, complex sites, and multi-payload missions.

Choose WingtraOne Gen II if...

Choose the WingtraOne Gen II for large open-area photogrammetry where per-flight coverage drives the economics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which covers more area per flight?

The WingtraOne Gen II — a VTOL fixed-wing cruises on its wing rather than hovering on rotors, so it maps on the order of 4 km² per flight depending on altitude and GSD. DJI publishes no per-flight coverage figure for the Matrice 400; the multirotor's advantage is everything a wing cannot do: hovering, confined sites, vertical structures, and LiDAR.

Where do these specifications come from?

DJI Matrice 400 figures come from DJI's official specification page, captured and verified August 2026. WingtraOne Gen II figures are Wingtra's published specifications.
