What Determines the Price?
- Building complexity — Open layouts cost less; many small rooms cost more
- Deliverables — Point cloud only (lowest) vs full safety package with CAD plans + asset overlays (highest)
- Number of buildings — Multi-school contracts reduce per-building cost
- Scanning technology — Tripod scanning ($0.20–$0.70/sqft) vs mobile SLAM ($0.20–$0.50/sqft)
Matterport Virtual Tours
Matterport tours for schools start at $1,500 per building. These are supplementary to the laser scan data — useful for first responder familiarization and enrollment marketing, but not sufficient alone for most state mandate compliance.
State Grant Funding
Many states offer grants that offset scanning costs:
- Georgia: $61,000/school — covers 100% of most projects
- Texas: $800M+ SAFE Grant — varies by district
- Indiana: $5,000/school — covers most elementary scanning
- Florida: $3,000–$5,000/school — significant partial coverage
- Michigan: Up to $1M per grantee
Federal grants (STOP, COPS) do not fund mapping. State grants are the funding source.
