About the EMLID Reach RS3

The EMLID Reach RS3 delivers professional-grade GNSS positioning with dual-band L1/L2 tracking for fast, reliable RTK fixes, and a magnetically immune 6DOF IMU for tilt compensation. That combination makes the RS3 a workhorse for ground control point establishment.

With 18 hours as an RTK rover with tilt compensation (22 hours of logging) and an IP67 rating, the RS3 handles full-day field operations in demanding weather. The rugged design withstands construction sites, remote survey locations, and challenging terrain.

The successor EMLID RS4 builds on the RS3 platform by adding the L5 and L6 bands, 672 channels against the RS3's 184, and NavIC tracking — more satellite signals in difficult sky conditions such as canopy and urban canyon.

For new surveying projects, we recommend the EMLID RS4 for its wider signal coverage. Contact us to discuss your ground control and surveying requirements—we can advise on the optimal GNSS configuration for your project.

Key Benefits

  • Dual-band L1/L2 for fast, reliable RTK fixes
  • RTK 7 mm + 1 ppm horizontal survey-grade accuracy
  • 18 hours as an RTK rover with tilt compensation
  • IMU tilt compensation, immune to magnetic disturbances
  • IP67 for demanding field conditions
  • Can function as base station or rover
  • Emlid Flow app for intuitive field operation

Considerations

  • Tracks L1/L2 only — the RS4 adds the L5 and L6 bands
  • 184 channels against the RS4's 672, and no NavIC tracking
  • Previous generation—EMLID prioritizes RS4 for firmware updates and new feature development

EMLID Reach RS3 Frequently Asked Questions

Is the EMLID Reach RS3 discontinued?

The RS3 has been superseded by the EMLID RS4 as the current-generation receiver. While RS3 units remain functional, EMLID's development focus has shifted to the RS4 platform, which adds the L5 and L6 bands and 672 channels.

EMLID RS3 vs RS4: what are the differences?

Both receivers publish the same RTK precision (7 mm + 1 ppm horizontal), the same ~5 s typical convergence and the same tilt-compensation formula (RTK + 2 mm + 0.3 mm/°). The RS4 adds the L5 and L6 bands, 672 channels against 184, NavIC tracking, a 2 W UHF radio and IP68 — more signals and more range in difficult conditions.

Should I upgrade from EMLID RS3 to RS4?

If you work under canopy or in urban canyon, the RS4's extra signals — L5 and L6, 672 channels against 184, plus NavIC — are the reason to upgrade. Both receivers have tilt compensation and the same published RTK precision, so if your sites have open sky the RS3 remains capable.

Can EMLID RS3 work as a base station?

Yes. The RS3 can function as either a base station transmitting corrections or as a rover receiving them. This flexibility allows various configurations: base/rover pair, single rover with NTRIP, or network RTK setups.

How do I get RTK corrections with EMLID RS3?

Three options: (1) Use an EMLID base station transmitting via radio or internet, (2) Connect to NTRIP correction service via cellular, or (3) Use post-processing for cm accuracy without real-time corrections.

Is EMLID RS3 accurate enough for engineering surveys?

Yes. RTK precision of 7 mm + 1 ppm horizontal (5 mm + 0.5 ppm in PPK, 4 mm + 0.5 ppm static) meets survey-grade requirements for most engineering applications including construction staking, boundary surveys, and ground control. Licensed surveyors regularly use EMLID receivers for professional work.

How long does EMLID RS3 battery last in the field?

Emlid publishes 18 hours as an RTK rover with tilt compensation, and 22 hours of logging—enough for multiple full-day jobs on a single charge. Battery status is displayed in the Emlid Flow app for monitoring during field operations.
