What is DJI Terra?
DJI Terra is DJI's native processing software, designed specifically to maximize the capabilities of DJI drones and payloads. Unlike third-party solutions, Terra is optimized for DJI's RTK workflow, Zenmuse L3 LiDAR processing, and mission planning.
The software offers three core modules: 2D mapping for orthomosaics, 3D reconstruction for mesh models, and LiDAR processing for point cloud generation. DJI publishes Terra in Agriculture, Standard, Flagship and Education versions, differing by available features. (Feature descriptions here follow DJI's Terra Operation White Paper v5.2.5.)
At THE FUTURE 3D, we use DJI Terra primarily for L3 LiDAR processing and situations where seamless DJI integration is essential. The direct RTK workflow with Matrice 350 RTK eliminates manual georeferencing steps.
DJI Terra Key Features
Comprehensive capabilities that make DJI Terra a professional choice for photogrammetry & mapping.
Native DJI Integration
Optimized for DJI drones with direct RTK support, smart oblique capture, and seamless data transfer from DJI FlightHub 2.
LiDAR Processing
Process Zenmuse L2 and L3 LiDAR data with point cloud classification, ground extraction, and terrain modeling.
Corridor Mapping
Specialized tools for power line, pipeline, and road corridor mapping with automatic feature extraction.
3D Reconstruction
Create detailed 3D mesh models from drone imagery with texture mapping for visualization applications.
Smart Oblique data support
Smart Oblique is a capture-side setting on the aircraft; Terra consumes the result — DJI recommends enabling Terra's Fill Hole Intelligently option when the imagery was collected with Smart Oblique.

DJI Terra FAQ
Is DJI Terra free?
DJI Terra offers a free trial, but full functionality requires an annual subscription starting at $999/year. Some DJI Enterprise drones include Terra licenses.
Can DJI Terra process non-DJI drone data?
Partly. DJI's own version-comparison table lists third-party camera data as supported for import in the Agriculture, Standard and Flagship versions, so visible-light reconstruction from non-DJI cameras is supported. The restriction is on LiDAR: DJI states that only data collected by DJI Zenmuse LiDAR can be imported. For non-DJI LiDAR, use Pix4D or another platform.
How accurate is DJI Terra?
DJI publishes no accuracy figure for Terra itself — accuracy comes from the aircraft, the payload and the control network, not the processing software. The DJI RTK aircraft we fly publish 1 cm + 1 ppm horizontal and 1.5 cm + 1 ppm vertical positioning accuracy in RTK FIX. We establish and report the achieved accuracy of each deliverable from ground control rather than quoting a software figure.
Does DJI Terra support L3 LiDAR?
Yes, DJI Terra is the primary processing software for Zenmuse L3, offering point cloud classification, ground extraction, and terrain modeling.
DJI Terra vs Pix4D: which is better?
DJI Terra is optimized for DJI hardware with seamless integration. Pix4D offers more control and accuracy for survey work. We use both based on project requirements.
Can DJI Terra do real-time mapping?
Not as a Terra feature. DJI does not document live or real-time map generation as a Terra capability — "real-time mapping" does not appear in DJI's Terra Operation White Paper (v5.2.5) or in either of DJI's Terra online manuals.
What computer specs are needed for DJI Terra?
DJI publishes a recommended specification rather than a hard minimum: Windows 10/11 64-bit, an NVIDIA graphics card with compute capability 6.1 or greater — preferably a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or later — with 4 GB or more of VRAM, and 200 GB of available disk space (200 GB is the stated minimum; an SSD is recommended). Large LiDAR projects benefit from considerably more RAM and a faster GPU than the published recommendation.
Does DJI Terra work on Mac?
No, DJI Terra is Windows-only. Mac users need to use Boot Camp, Parallels, or alternative software like Pix4D.
