About the BathyLogger BL200

The BathyLogger BL200 is THE FUTURE 3D's single-beam echo sounder for bathymetric (underwater) survey data collection. Operating at 200kHz with a tight 9-degree beam angle, the BL200 delivers 0.01m depth resolution with ±0.1% accuracy across a 0.4 to 100 meter depth range.

Built in stainless steel and certified to CE and IEC 60945 marine electronics standards, the BL200 is engineered for harsh saltwater environments. The integrated 8,000mAh battery provides up to 24 hours of continuous operation, enabling full-day survey campaigns without recharging.

The BL200 outputs standard NMEA DBT (Depth Below Transducer) sentences, making it compatible with all major hydrographic survey software platforms including Hypack, Hydromagic, and survey-grade GNSS receivers from Trimble, Leica, and Topcon. When paired with our RTK positioning, the system delivers georeferenced bathymetric profiles suitable for engineering design, dredging volume calculations, and underwater infrastructure documentation.

We deploy the BathyLogger BL200 alongside our terrestrial laser scanners and drone platforms to deliver complete above-water and below-water survey packages for ports, harbors, marinas, waterfront infrastructure, and marine construction projects.

Key Benefits

  • 0.01m depth resolution for precise underwater mapping
  • 24-hour battery for full-day survey campaigns
  • NMEA-compatible with all major hydrographic software
  • Stainless steel construction for marine environments
  • Compact and portable for rapid deployment
  • Pairs with RTK GNSS for georeferenced bathymetry

Considerations

  • Single-beam — captures a profile line, not full-coverage like multibeam
  • Requires boat or vessel for deployment
  • Best suited for depths 0.4-100m (not deep ocean)

BathyLogger BL200 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the BathyLogger BL200 used for?

The BathyLogger BL200 is a single-beam echo sounder used for underwater depth measurement and bathymetric surveying. We deploy it for port and harbor depth surveys, marina infrastructure documentation, dredging volume calculations, and underwater obstruction detection. When combined with RTK positioning, it produces georeferenced bathymetric profiles for engineering design and regulatory compliance.

How accurate is the BathyLogger BL200?

The BL200 provides 0.01m (1cm) depth resolution with ±0.1% accuracy relative to the measured depth. At 10 meters depth, that means ±1cm accuracy. At 50 meters depth, ±5cm accuracy. This meets the requirements for engineering-grade bathymetric surveys, dredging design, and marine construction documentation.

Can the BathyLogger BL200 be used in saltwater?

Yes. The BL200 is built with a stainless steel housing and is certified to IEC 60945, the international standard for maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment. It is designed for use in marine environments including ports, harbors, coastal waters, and estuaries.

What software is compatible with the BathyLogger BL200?

The BL200 outputs standard NMEA DBT (Depth Below Transducer) sentences, making it compatible with all major hydrographic survey software including Hypack, Hydromagic, EIVA, and QINSy. It also integrates with survey-grade GNSS receivers from Trimble, Leica, and Topcon for real-time georeferenced data collection.

How does bathymetric data complement 3D laser scanning?

Laser scanners and drones capture everything above the waterline — structures, terrain, equipment. The BathyLogger BL200 captures everything below the waterline — seabed profiles, underwater structures, and depth measurements. Together, they provide a complete above-and-below-water survey package. This is essential for port infrastructure projects where both the wharf structure and the berthing depth must be documented.

How deep can the BathyLogger BL200 measure?

The BL200 has a depth range of 0.4 to 100 meters, covering the vast majority of port, harbor, marina, river, and coastal survey requirements. The minimum depth of 0.4m means it can measure in shallow waters where many echo sounders cannot. For depths exceeding 100 meters, multibeam or specialized deep-water systems are required.
