What's the difference between mobile mapping and terrestrial scanning?

Category: general

Terrestrial scanners (Trimble, Leica, FARO) are tripod-mounted and capture from fixed positions with highest accuracy (sub-2mm). Mobile mapping systems (NavVis VLX3, Leica BLK2GO) are handheld or wearable, capturing while moving with slightly lower accuracy (5-10mm). Mobile mapping is 10-20x faster for large spaces. Use terrestrial for highest accuracy needs; use mobile mapping for rapid capture of large facilities.
