Equipment FAQ

How many GCPs do I need for photogrammetry?

Category: survey

GCP (Ground Control Point) requirements depend on project size and accuracy needs: MINIMUM 3-5 GCPs for small sites (<10 acres). RECOMMENDED 1 GCP per 5-10 acres for topographic work. CHECKPOINTS: Add 2-3 independent checkpoints (not used in processing) to verify accuracy. DISTRIBUTION: Evenly distribute across site, avoid straight-line patterns, include both high and low elevation areas. With RTK/PPK drones like M4E, you can reduce GCPs but should still use checkpoints for validation. For survey-grade 1-3cm accuracy, proper GCP layout is critical.
