Scanning duration depends on method, area, and complexity:
Mobile Mapping (NavVis VLX 3):
- Capture is continuous at walking pace, with no per-position setup — field time follows the length of the walking route
- Clutter, access restrictions and required point density are the main variables
- Multi-story buildings add time for stairs and elevator transitions
Tripod Scanning (Trimble, Leica, FARO):
- The scanner is placed, levelled and scanned at each position, then moved — field time follows the number of positions needed for line-of-sight coverage
- Complex MEP raises that position count sharply
Drone Photogrammetry:
- Area per flight follows altitude, overlap and battery endurance
- Processing: 1-3 days depending on deliverables
Drone LiDAR:
- Area per flight follows altitude, pulse rate and the point density the deliverable requires
- Processing: 1-2 days for standard deliverables
Processing adds time beyond field capture:
- Point cloud delivery: 1-3 days
- BIM modeling (by your team or a BIM provider): 1-2 weeks depending on LOD
- Floor plans: 3-5 business days
